Union Cabinet approved Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM)
Command Area Development and Water Management (CADWM) Programme:
- Launched in 1974-75 as the Command Area Development Programme (CADP).
- Renamed to CADWM Programme in 2004.
- Objective – Improve water-use efficiency in irrigation projects and ensure optimal utilization of irrigation potential.
- Implemented under PMKSY – Har Khet Ko Pani from 2015-16
- Implemented by – Ministry of Jal Shakti in collaboration with state governments.
- Key Components –
- Construction of field channels and field drains.
- Land leveling and shaping.
- Micro-irrigation technologies.
- Introduction of rotational water supply (RWS) or warabandi.
- Strengthening Water Users’ Associations (WUAs) for participatory irrigation management.
- Coverage – Applies to major, medium, and minor irrigation projects across India.
- Regulations – Encourages alignment with the Water Resources Development Act to optimize agricultural irrigation systems.
