Russian peacekeepers have started to leave Nagorno-Karabakh after Azerbaijan took back the contested area last year.
- An ethnic and territorial disputed area between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
- Known as Artsakh by Armenians.
- A landlocked mountainous area in the Caucasus region (the transcontinental region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea).
- Internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but its inhabitants are predominantly ethnic Armenians.
- Governed by (at present) – Separatist Armenians and called the “Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast.”
