Researchers have created an embryo of the northern White rhinoceros by using In vitro Fertilization (IVF) process.
White rhinoceros:
- Also known as – Square-lipped rhinoceros
- Native to – Africa
- Subspecies – Northern and Southern white rhino
- Significance – 2nd largest land mammal after the elephant
- Presently, there are only 2 northern white rhinos in the world
- IUCN Status – Near Threatened
Other 4 Species:
- One Horned Rhino – Also called “Indian rhino”
- Largest of all Asian rhino species.
- Black rhino – Native to eastern and southern Africa
- Javan rhino – Also known as Sunda rhino or lesser one-horned rhino

In vitro Fertilization:
- One of the more widely known types of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).
- Process – Fertilisation takes place in a test tube rather than in a human or animal.
- In vivo – Experimentation being done in a living organism
