The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation and restructuring of the Skill India Programme (SIP) until 2026.
Skill India Programme:
- A program combining the 3 flagship schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship – Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0, Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme
- Objectives –
- Structured Skill Development: Providing structured skill development, on-the-job training, and community-based learning.
- Inclusive Access: Ensuring both urban and rural populations, including marginalized communities, have access to high-quality vocational education.
- Future-Ready Workforce: Building a skilled, future-ready workforce by integrating demand-driven, technology-enabled, and industry-aligned training.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0):
- Focus: Industry-oriented skill development training.
- Features –
- On-the-Job Training (OJT): Integration of OJT within short-term skilling programs.
- Digital Delivery: Blended and flexible learning model incorporating digital delivery.
- Skill Hubs: Establishment of Skill Hubs across premier academic institutions.
Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS):
- Focus: Facilitating a smooth transition from education to work.
- Features –
- Stipend Support: 25% of the stipend, up to Rs 1,500 per month, provided through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
- Age Group: For individuals aged 14 to 35 years.
- Sector Coverage: Includes both traditional manufacturing and emerging fields like AI, robotics, blockchain, green energy, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme:
- Focus: Community-centric skilling initiative.
- Target Group: Women, rural youth, and economically disadvantaged groups aged 15-45 years.
