Siachen:
- Located in Karakoram Range (between Saltoro Ridge to the west and the main Karakoram Range to the east).
- Originates near Indira Col West and demarcates Central Asia from the Indian subcontinent.
- A Piedmont glacier (glaciers formed on the foothills of mountains).
- World’s 2nd-longest non-polar glacier (after Fedchenko Glacier in Tajikistan).
- Nubra River originates from it.
- It is a tributary of the Shyok (part of the Indus River system).
- Part of – Ladakh which has now been converted into a Union Territory.
- World’s highest battlefield
- Indian Army launched Operation Meghdoot in 1984 to capture Siachen
- Sonam – Highest helipad in the world maintained in Siachen by India
