Vadhavan Port
Vadhavan greenfield port in Maharashtra will double India’s container trade from the current levels upon completion.
- Location – Maharashtra.
- Will be the 13th major port in India, enhancing India’s position in global maritime trade
- Developed on the landlord model where the port authority acts as a regulatory body and private companies handle operations.
- Capacity – Expected to handle 254 million tonnes of cargo annually
Cascais Declaration
The 10th Global Forum of United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) adopted Cascais Declaration in Portugal.
- Objective – To advance peace and mutual understanding amid global conflicts.
- Key Actions –
- Harnessing AI for intercultural and inter-religious dialogue.
- Combatting disinformation, misinformation, and hate speech.
- Promoting intergenerational dialogue for peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
- Emphasizing the role of women as negotiators, mediators, and peacemakers
Notifiable Disease
Ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) has designated snakebite cases and deaths as a ‘notifiable disease’.
- A disease that must be reported to government authorities by law.
- Responsibility of notifying any disease and the implementation lies with the state government.
- WHO’s International Health Regulations require reporting of certain diseases to aid global surveillance.
- Examples include AIDS, hepatitis, dengue, etc.
UN Peacebuilding Commission
India has been re-elected to U.N. Peacebuilding Commission for 2025–2026.
- Created in 2005 to support peace efforts in conflict-affected countries.
- Composition – Composed of 31 Member States elected from the General Assembly, Security Council, and Economic and Social Council.
- Functions:
- Advises on and proposes integrated strategies for post-conflict peacebuilding and recovery.
- Promotes coordinated approaches to peacebuilding within the UN system.
