Key Highlights of the Pact:
- New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance – Establishes a new financial target to assist countries in protecting their populations and economies from climate disasters, while also benefiting from the clean energy boom.
- Global Goal on Adaptation –
- Baku Adaptation Roadmap – Aims to advance adaptation actions in line with Article 7 of the Paris Agreement that sets the global goal of enhancing adaptive capacity to contribute to sustainable development.
- Recognizes both incremental and transformational approaches to protect people’s well-being and implement the UAE Framework for Global Climate Resilience.
- Sharm el-Sheikh Mitigation Ambition and Implementation Work Programme –
- Emphasizes that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach due to varying national and local circumstances.
- Encourages cooperation between cities, subnational authorities, local communities, and national governments on mitigation actions.
- Discusses the creation of a digital platform to facilitate the implementation of mitigation actions.
