  • Global Rankings – India is the 3rd largest emitter of GHGs, following China and the US
  • Emission Disparities – 6 largest GHG emitters contribute 63% of global emissions, while the least developed countries account for only 3%.
    • Historically, India’s CO2 emissions are significantly lower compared to China and the US
  • Missing NDC Targets – More stringent policies are needed globally to meet the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets for 2030.
  • Recommendations for Limiting Global Warming to 1.5°C –
    • Emission Reduction Goals – Nations must collectively aim to reduce annual GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 and 57% by 2035 in their next NDCs.
    • Comprehensive NDCs – NDCs should include all gases listed in the Kyoto Protocol, cover all sectors, and set specific targets.
    • Renewable Energy – Increasing the use of solar photovoltaic technologies and wind energy to achieve 38% of the total emission reduction potential by 2035.
