Orkney Islands has proposed its intent to split from U.K. and become a self-governing territory of Norway.

- An archipelago of nearly 70 islands (only 20 are inhabited)
- Closer to the arctic circle than it is to London.
- Under Norwegian and Danish rule until late 15th century after which it came under Scotland.
