Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) endorse the Australia-funded Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI).
Pacific Islands Forum (PIF):
- An intergovernmental organisation formed in 1971.
- Member countries – Consists of 18 member states located in the Pacific region.
- Aim –
- To push for economic growth, enhance political governance and security for the region.
- Aims for a resilient Pacific region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion
- Decisions are implemented by – Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
- Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) – A regional financing facility established by PIF
- It aims to push for economic growth, enhance political governance and security for the region, and strengthen regional cooperation.
Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI):
- Objective – To elevate the law enforcement capabilities of Pacific nations, ensuring they are better equipped to handle law and order challenges and internal security threats.
- PPI aligns with the Pacific Islands Forum’s 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent
India’s engagement with Pacific Region:
- Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (2014)
- Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (2019)
