Context:
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved 12 new project proposals under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP).
National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP):
- A transformative initiative for India’s infrastructure and industrial landscape.
- Objectives –
- Transform the industrial landscape by creating a network of industrial nodes and new industrial cities as “Smart Cities” with next-generation technologies.
- Make India a global manufacturing and investment destination using a high-capacity transportation network.
- Develop state-of-the-art infrastructure to promote local commerce, enhance investment, generate employment, and achieve sustainable development.
- Budgetary Allocation – Estimated at ₹28,602 crore.
- Coverage – Spans across 10 states, strategically planned along 6 major corridors.
- Implementation – Monitored by an Apex Monitoring Authority chaired by the Finance Minister.
- The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (NICDC) is the implementing agency.
- Importance – It will integrate with the PM Gati Shakti programme and will bolster India’s position in Global Value Chains.
