  • Location – Tamil Nadu.
    • At the tri-junction of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
  • Lies on Nilgiri hills, part of the Western Ghats
  • Part of – Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve, India’s 1st biosphere reserve.
    • Along with Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala) to the west and Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Karnataka) to the north, Mukurthi National Park and Silent Valley in the South.
  • Habitat – Diverse habitats including tropical evergreen forest, moist deciduous forest, moist teak forest, dry teak forest, secondary grasslands, and swamps.
  • River – Moyar River
  • Flagship Species – Tiger and Asian Elephant.
  • Flora – Features tall grasses like “Elephant Grass,” giant bamboo, and valuable timber species such as Teak and Rosewood.

The Oscar-winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” was filmed at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp within the reserve.
