Flavivirus

Flavivirus

A recent study identified importin-7 (IPO7) as a protein that transports flavivirus core protein across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus.

  • Belongs to the family Flaviviridae.
  • Virion Structure
    • Enveloped, spherical virions with a diameter of 40-60 nanometers.
    • Genome consists of non-segmented, single-stranded positive-sense RNA.
  • Types:
  • Vectors:
    • Aedes mosquitoes, responsible for spreading  Dengue ,  Zika , and Yellow Fever.
    • Ticks and other flying insects can also transmit Flaviviruses between humans and animals.
  • Non-Vector-Borne Member: Hepatitis C  ,only non-vector-borne member of the Flavivirus family, is transmitted exclusively through direct blood-to-blood contact between humans.
  • A protein
  • For transporting molecules into the nucleus of a cell.
  • Encoded by the IPO7 gene in humans.
  • IPO7 is involved in various cellular processes, including gene expression, DNA repair, and cell cycle regulation.
