Fakirappa Gurubasappa Halakatti, renowned for his role in revitalizing Vachana Literature was remembered on his birth anniversary.

  • Kannada rhythmic composition
  • Originated in – 11th century as part of the Lingayat movement.
  • Spearheaded by – Guru Basavanna
  • Father of Vachana poetry – Madara Chennaiah, an 11th century cobbler-saint who lived in the time of the Western Chalukyas
  • Followers of the 12th-century social reformer-philosopher poet, Basaveshwara.
  • Basaveshwara – Prime minister during the reign of Kalachuri dynasty king Bijjala (I) in Karnataka.
  • Also known as – Veershaivism
  • Part of – Sharana movement
  • Was against the caste system and Vedic rituals.
  • Rejected gender-based discrimination
  • Monotheists
  • Enjoin the worship of only one God, namely, Linga (Shiva).
