Union Cabinet approves continuation of Flood Management and Border Areas Programme.

  • Aim –
    • To supplement the efforts of the State Governments to protect human life, land and property from flood fury by providing technical guidance and financial assistance
    • Promotes bilateral co-operation in the field of water resources with neighbouring countries.
  • Type – Centrally Sponsored Scheme
  • Ministry – Ministry of Jal Shakti
  • Launched during – 11th Five Year Plan (2007-2012)
  • Extended to – Period of 5 years from 2021-22 to 2025-26
  • Sub-components –
    • Flood Management Programme (FMP)
    • River Management and Border Areas (RMBA)
  • Covers – Critical works related to flood control, anti-erosion, drainage development and anti-sea erosion, etc.
  • Funding Pattern90:10 between Centre and 8 North-Easter States and Hilly States (For rest state 60:40)
  • Covers –
    • Flood control and anti-erosion works on common border rivers with neighbouring countries.
    • Hydrological observations and flood forecasting.
    • Investigation & pre-construction activities of joint water resources projects (with neighbouring countries) on common border rivers.
  • Funding Pattern – 100% central assistance.
