
Context:
MoU was signed between Bureau of Water Use Efficiency (BWUE), National Water Mission (NWM), Ministry of Jal Shakti and Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) for a Water Positive India.
About National Water Mission:
- Launched – 2011
- Launched under – National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC)
- Objective –Conservation of water, avoiding wastage, and guaranteeing its fairer distribution both among and within States.
- National Water Mission Awards – Recognize excellence in sustainable water management, efficient water use, and water conservation.
About National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC):
- Launched by – Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change in 2008.
- Objective:Creating climate change awareness for public, government, scientists, industry, and communities to combat the threat.
Overview of India’s Water Resources:
- Water requirement in India – around 1,100 billion cubic meters per year.
- India has only 4% of the world’s freshwater resources.
- Groundwater extraction – 230-billion-meter cubes per year.
